TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held April 14, 2007 IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Elsie Gideon Billy R. Gideon Jim Ackermann Roger O’Dell Fran Trendler Arden Schug Dwight Haisley Rick Merrick Lillian Devine Grace Meyers Jackie Fioretti The meeting was called to order by President Everett Putney at 10:00 am. He asked if anyone would like the minutes read from the previous meeting. Jackie Fioretti made a correction to the minutes stating there are a total of 400 miles of trails within and around Timberon. Bill Gideon made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes and accept them as corrected. Fran Trendler seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as corrected. In Gwen Adams absence, Jackie Fioretti gave the treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Roger O’Dell to accept the report as given. Rick Merrick seconded the motion. The motion passed. Roger O’Dell made a motion to pay our bills. Rick Merrick seconded the motion. The motion passed. The Timberon airport liability insurance is due later this month. Roger O’Dell made a motion to pay the bill up to $2,600.00. Rick Merrick seconded the motion. The motion passed. The Timberon weather station is working. Scott Millar is fine tuning and updating the program. Timberon weather is on NOAH. You can get Timberon’s weather status by logging in to timberondevelopmentcouncil.com . Everett advised he has written a letter to Dell Telephone requesting an unlimited band width upload DSL line for the weather station. Everett advised Jeremy McMahon has a business that involves ATV Tours. TDC encourages new business but the Timberon Development Council is not involved in this business. An annual REDTT, Rural Economic Development Through Tourism, conference will be held in Carlsbad, New Mexico on April 26th and 27th. Bill Gideon volunteered to attend. Jackie Fioretti made a motion to pay the $80.00 registration fee and expenses to attend the conference. Lillian Devine seconded the motion and it passed. over Page 2 The Mary Glover Park, Shallow Creek and Tres Marias Parks thinning is almost complete. The spreading of the chips will require in kind labor on the grant. In the Community Action Team Meeting, Larry Hanson volunteered to move the chips to the paths with his front end loader. Rick Merrick and Jim Ackermann will mark the paths with paint. A volunteer workday will be scheduled to spread the chips. We will start with the Mary Glover Park. Everyone working on the project will keep track of their hours. There are approximately twenty five homeowners who are interested in having their property thinned on the New Mexico Fire Plan Grant/ We have two contractors that will work on the grant. Fire Chief, Arden Schug advised the volunteer fire fighters will receive training on Forest Service Urban Interface Fire Training on April 21st and 22nd and May 6th. There may be a burn ban placed in service about April 17th. There have already been fires in Chaparral and Jack Rabbit. There was discussion on the proposed Bio Mass project in Otero County. There were discussions concerning the lakes and how to manage the slash. Everett will contact the Timberon Water and Sanitation District Manager and negotiate a solution to the problem prior to the next meeting. There was discussion on the bug problem from the Fir Lopers attacking the trees in the Forest. A motion was made by Fran Trendler to adjourn at 11:25 am. and seconded by Lillian Devine. Meeting adjourned. These meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00am in the Timberon Lodge. They are open meetings and everyone is invited to attend.
