Gravel piles for the paving have been delivered and bids for oil and other material are in progress. Otero County wanted to pave Sacramento at the same time but the water lines have not been installed across the street so this will be done at a later date. We have received six windsocks from the State Aviation for future use. A completion ceremony will be held at the end of the project. The Timberon weather station is working. Everett thanked Scott Millar and B.F. Adams for all their work and support in getting it up and running. Timberon weather is on N.O.A.A. (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration). You can get Timberon’s weather status by logging on to timberondevelopmentcouncil.com. The weather system updates every five minutes. We received a response back from Dell Telephone and they have approved a DSL line for the Timberon Development Council in support of the weather station. The New Mexico State tree thinning project is in force. We are receiving requests for thinning from our last mail out. There are approximately ten properties who have requested thinning but have limited access and would be very difficult to thin. Another mailing was discussed. over Page 2 Volunteer work will start on the Mary Glover Park May 14th and 15th. The walking paths have been marked by Rick Merrick, Steve Griffith, Jim Ackermann and Fran Trendler. Volunteers will spread the chips in the walking paths. This project was funded by the New Mexico Association of Counties and our volunteer work is in kind labor required on this grant. Bill Gideon attended the annual REDTT, Rural Economic Development Through Tourism, conference held in Carlsbad, New Mexico on April 26th and 27th. He gave a very good report and said the conference was very informative and well organized. The people were very friendly and made them feel welcome. Governor Richardson supports the New Mexico Main Street project and his office has information on how to work with the state if you want to revitalize your main street. The two basic requirements for tourism are to provide places to eat and places to shop. Adequate housing is also a very important requirement. Larry Hanson mentioned he attended a very good meeting in Weed concerning major thinning on several water sheds around Timberon. A motion was made by Rick Merrick to adjourn at 11:20 am. and seconded by Howard Neighbor. Meeting adjourned. These meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00am in the Timberon Lodge. They are open meetings and everyone is invited to attend. Respectfully submitted, Jackie Fioretti, Secretary
