Everett Putney advised he spoke with the Otero County Road Superintendent, Bill Lee Parker on Wednesday, April 9th and Bill Lee said he would work on the road around Timberon to have a complete loop. He didn’t give a time frame when this would be completed. Everett mentioned to him that grass and weeds were coming up on the runway and Bill Lee said he would spray the runway prior to the final coat. A center stripe on the runway was also discussed and Bill Lee indicated he would do this. Timberon Parks. Everett thanked everyone who volunteered and worked on Thursday and/or Friday, April 10th & 11th, at the Mary Glover Park. He mentioned, Peggy and Frank Bullard, Richard Rodriguez, Lil Devine, J.R. If you would like to help, when we have volunteer work days, please contact Gwen Adams and she will notify you when the work days are scheduled. Signs have been made and paid for by Otero County for each of the parks. He showed the signs and they will be installed soon. Timberon Independence Day Celebration. Gwen Adams gave a very good report for Rick Merrick, Chairman. She mentioned the activities that were presently scheduled. We are in need of volunteers for the following: Choir singers, clean up during the day, empty trash cans, parking attendants, craft booths, entertainers and last but not least Master of Ceremonies. If you Over Page 2 are interested in participating please call Rick Merrick at 987-2449. Kids games are needed and Gwen mentioned an idea for a stage under the tent is needed. Everett presented his idea for a stage which would be 12 ft by 20 ft and require seven sheets of plywood, ten trusses ten feet in length, etc. Larry Hanson advised to check on I beams at Foxworth Gailbrath or 84 Lumber instead of using trusses. They would be 10-11 inches off the ground and you could use cinder block to set it on. Larry said he had some I beams he would donate. Everett will look into this. J.R. has started work on the horseshoe pits. Everett briefly described a mesh banner which would cost about seven hundred dollars. The committee has tabled this idea for now. He also mentioned he may have an old Robin Hood Days banner that he could modify. Two tents have been reserved for the occasion and a deposit will be required later. A flag pole for the Mary Glover Park was mentioned and Everett will check with Otero County. Scott Millar will check with the VFW to see if they will provide this. He will also see if they are able to lead the Timberon Parade for that day. B.F. mentioned that almost everyone should park on the back side of Mary Glover Park and not on the street in front of the park. Everett advised he checked with Otero County on Liability Insurance coverage for the Independence Day Celebration. Liability Insurance called “TULIP” (Tenant Users Liability Insurance Program) is required under Otero County Insurance. Since we thought the insurance for the venders etc. would be covered under an umbrella policy with the county, TDC will pay the insurance, for this year only, for each vendor and participant who meet our deadline in signing up for this event. Everett Putney and Rick Merrick have copies of the insurance requirements. A lot of activities are scheduled for July 5th in Timberon. The Fire Department will have a “Pancake Breakfast”, a “Timberon Parade” is scheduled, a celebration in Mary Glover Park and the Sacramento Mountains ATV is presenting their 2nd annual Timberon ATV Poker Run. Everett advised Bill McCullough has approached him to use the tractor to cut the grass around the Community Lodge in order to present a defensible space in case of fire. Everett said he would work with him on this project. In lieu of Fire Chief, Arden Schug’s report, Everett said improvements have been made at the Fire Department and Freddie De La Cruz has made signs. It really looks nice. Joan Schug has made progress on her swimming pool project. Several people including Jim Ackermann have cut the trees around the swimming pool and John Brazil is removing the large trees. A new fence has been built around the swimming pool. A drawing was held for those in attendance. Frank Bullard won a vehicle cushion and Gwen Adams won a book reading lamp. Gwen Adams made a motion to adjourn and Scott Millar seconded it. The motion passed. These meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Timberon Development Council Office, 1841 Sacramento Drive. They are open meetings and everyone is invited. Respectfully submitted, Jackie Fioretti, Secretary
