TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held October 11, 2008 IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Gwen Adams B.F. The meeting was opened with a prayer and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Everett asked if anyone would like the minutes read from the previous meeting? Rick Merrick made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted, seconded by B.F. Adams and the minutes were approved. Gwen Adams gave the treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Rick Merrick to accept the report, seconded by Jack Doll, and the Treasurer’s report was approved. Everett Putney asked if there were any bills to be paid. Bills pending totaled $620.03 which included diesel for the tractor and BLM chipper, meat & sauce for the volunteer appreciation dinner, 16.5 hours spent on the web page and template for the web page. Donene O’Dell made a motion to pay our bills. Linda Lea seconded the motion and it was approved to pay our bills. Rick Merrick gave a report for the special committee assigned to determine what TDC would like to support next year for a Special Event. He advised the committee met a week ago and recommended the following: One event at the Community Lodge for July 04, 2009 and for one day. A Special Events Committee needs to be formed for this event. If you are interested in serving on this committee please call Gwen Adams. A medical clinic in Timberon was discussed at our last meeting. It was mentioned in order to submit a grant, our Community Action Plan needs to be updated. There is an extra room at the Fire Department for this but it would have to be approved by the county commissioners. It was mentioned Bill Gideon has resigned from chairing the Community Action Plan Update Committee. It was also mentioned a nurse practitioner from Cloudcroft will speak at the November Home Extension Club meeting. Everett Putney gave an update on the airstrip. Weeds are coming up through the newly paved runway and he will contact Bill Lee Parker, Road Superintendent for Otero County concerning this. He mentioned the runway needs to be painted with the stripes and designation. Everett is considering a smiley face be painted on the runway and gave the history of the smiley face. The following were nominated for the 2009 Offices: President, Everett Putney; Vice President, Rick Merrick and B.F. Adams; Treasurer, Gwen Adams; Secretary, Jackie Fioretti. B. F. Adams made a motion for nominations to cease, seconded by Jack Doll and the motion passed. Jackie Fioretti read the duties of each office and what constitutes a quorum per the by-laws. Elections will be held at the November meeting and the new officers will take office in January 2009. Page 2 Judy Underwood gave a very good presentation on the updated web page. The new Web Page can be accessed via www.timberondevelopmentcouncil.org . The web page has a new calendar, a city map provided by the county, yellow pages, minutes of our meetings, a contact page, 4 galleries which consist of the four seasons, music, etc., and photos. Individual advertisement and charging for links were discussed. Rick Merrick advised the following meetings have been scheduled: Community Action Plan Update Committee, (Tuesday) October 21st at 6:00 p.m. at the TDC Office. Special Events Committee, (Monday) November 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the TDC Office. There was discussion where to have the November TDC meeting. Donna Millar made a motion to have the November TDC meeting at the TDC Office, seconded by Larry Hanson and the motion passed. Larry advised he would donate a single barrel heater for the barn. A barrel heater kit can be purchased at Harbor Freight. There was discussion on TDC revenue source for next year. The following were some of the suggestions: Community dinners, cookbooks, braided breads. It was mentioned Wal*Mart will give you a discount on the food if you request it at the beginning of the month. Linda Lea will check on the publishing prices for a cookbook for the next meeting. Participation in the School Boosters Annual Calendar was discussed. Advertisement would cost $50.00 and meeting notices on the calendar for every second Saturday would cost 25¢ per month for a total of $53.00. Rick Merrick made a motion to spend $53.00 for advertisement and meeting notices in the School Boosters annual calendar, seconded by B.F. Adams and the motion passed. B.F. Adams advised he still has DVD’s of “Putting on The Lips” edited by Burt Rubinowitz for sale. The DVD costs $10.00 or $12.00 if mailed. The proceeds go to the Timberon EMS and so far the DVD’s have raised $500.00. Call B.F. Adams if you would like to purchase one. Scott Millar, Commander of VFW Post 11999 advised they were sponsoring a Veteran’s Day Spaghetti Dinner in Cloudcroft, NM on Friday, November 7th from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Senior Center (212 Glorietta Ave.). Tickets are $7.00 in advance or pay at the door. Scott also mentioned Robert Dulaney Barrett (Democrat) was running for Otero County Commissioner District 3 along with Ronnie Reardon (Republican). He advised Barrett was a friend of his and would do a very good job as commissioner. He had campaign cards to pass out. Everett Putney mentioned our computer at the TDC Office took a direct lightening hit. Scott Millar is assessing the damage. Scott will contact Dell City Telephone for a new modem. Larry Hanson advised there is a problem with the GPS mapping when requesting GPS directions to Timberon. After discussion it was suggested signs need to be put up at the turns or when requesting GPS directions request “paved route only” or “Cloudcroft to Timberon”. Laura Filoso won the drawing for a butterfly vase. Gwen Adams made a motion to adjourn and Scott Millar seconded it. The motion passed. These meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Timberon Development Council Office, 1841 Sacramento Drive. They are open meetings and everyone is invited. Reminder!
