Rick Merrick gave an update on the Community Action Plan (CAP). He thanked the committee for all their work on the survey for the past two months. The survey has closed and he reviewed some of the content and the responses. The CAP is the Timberon communities plan and is required when grants for the community are requested. Linda Lea will email the survey results to the Timberon Development Council Board for their review. After discussion it was agreed we would have a community meeting in March and a final draft in March. Jackie will send a letter to TWSD to reserve the lodge for our March meeting at 10:00am and the Timberon Community meeting at 2:00pm on March 14th. It was suggested to put the brochure on or near the community bulletin board. Burt Rubinowitz gave a very good report on cell phone capability for Timberon. He advised ENMR PLATO, a not for profit organization is interested in coming here to explore future cell sites. The cost to build a cell tower is $300,000.00 and they work with CO-OP’s and other telephone companies. It was suggested we could invite them to one of our meetings and have them give a presentation. Cell phones are a health and safety issue and are needed in Timberon. Everett read a thank you note from Joan Schug to TDC for the $800.00 donation towards the community pool lights. Joan gave an update on her project and thanked the community for $3,000.00 in donations. She has submitted a grant to Otero County in the amount of $250,000.00 to renovate the community pool, bath house and pump house. She is still looking for an electrician and one from Weed might come to look at the project. Cookie McGuire gave an update on DTI, Discover Timberon Inc., at the High Country Lounge. Their lease is expiring and Larry Henson, President has submitted an RFP to the Timberon Water and Sanitation District to renew their lease. DTI is owned by shareholders who own property in Timberon and they are looking for additional shareowners. You can support DTI by logging onto twsd@dellcity.com prior to January 17th and recommend TWSD renew their lease. Rick Merrick resigned as Chairman of the Events Committee due to other commitments. Fire season is approaching and he will be called to help. He encouraged everyone to support the events in the community. Our weekenders are strong and reach out to them. He attended a meeting recently with Federal Forestry, City and County representatives who are struggling for money. He asked how does the proposed Stimulus Plan fit TDC? Government entities are looking for projects to put their money in. TDC needs a wish list, for example he would like to see a swing set for the kids in the Mary Glover Park. If you have a wish for the community let us know about it. He mentioned he talked to Timberon Fire Chief, Joe Wheeler about the Sub Station located on the land donated to them by TDC. Two 11,000 gallon tanks will be installed and they are working on funding for the building. A lot of good things are happening in Timberon. Gwen Adams informed everyone the entrance to the lodge needs help. Curtains, furniture, bookcases etc. are needed. She will chair this committee and Cheryl Miller and Judy Underwood will help her with the project. Page 3 It was mentioned TWSD is applying for a loan with the State of New Mexico to help with their finances for the near future. There will be an election on this and everyone registered in New Mexico who owns property in Timberon is entitled to vote. We encourage you to vote. Hopefully, in the future a grant will be requested to pay off the loan. Rick Merrick made a motion to adjourn and Linda Lea seconded it. The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 11:42am. These meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Timberon Development Council Office, 1841 Sacramento Drive. They are open meetings and everyone is invited to attend.
