The Western store fronts will be erected on Thursday, July 2nd from 9:00am to 11:00am. We need volunteers to help us! If you need more details you can call Calvin Tyler. Jim Miller, Will Travel Photography, located in Ruidoso, NM gave a presentation on what he could do to help us create a DVD for the Timberon Development Council to send with our tree thinning letters to promote tree thinning within Timberon. He showed us a DVD on the Ruidoso Flood which he produced. Gwen Adams made a motion to form a committee to pursue the video. It was seconded by Rick Merrick and the motion passed. Jim agreed to search the internet for a company to reproduce the DVDs at the lowest cost. Everett Putney thanked everyone who worked on and around the lower lake at the lodge during our TDC Volunteer Days on May 14th, 15th, 29th & 30th. Everett thanked BLM for providing the chipper to chip the logs pulled out of the lake. He thanked Steve Worrell for providing the crane and using his big truck. Steve saved the day and hauled the logs that couldn’t be chipped. Everett thanked the Timberon Home Extension Club for providing lunch on May 29th and 30th. It is very rewarding to see so many people help when it is needed. Again, thanks to all of you who helped! Page 2 Everett mentioned he received a call from Tammy Bean, Community and Economic Development Administrator for Otero County Electric Cooperative and Tularosa Basin Telephone Company. She is located in Cloudcroft, NM and is assigned to help small communities to develop economically and to collaborate with other business. She has asked to review our Community Action Plan and Jackie will e-mail her a copy. More on this later. Everett mentioned he read in the Mountain Times Newspaper that Otero County would like to provide property house numbers to those who need them. The house numbers will aid emergency units in finding a particular location. Please call Brenda Garcia at 575-439-2655. The grass cutting mower deck for the tractor needs repaired. The blade is broken and the cutter is not operational. The cost to repair it is $1,600.00 to $1,800.00. Everett called Otero County to see if they had a mower deck they were getting ready to get rid of and they won’t for two years. Larry Hanson advised he had a 4 or 5 foot cutter for $400.00. John Deere has a 72” wide cutter for $2,600 + tax and Kabuda has one for $2,100 + tax. After discussion, Frank Bullard made a motion to purchase the John Deere mower deck. Jack Doll seconded the motion and the motion was approved. Everett mentioned an engineer is getting the technical information needed for the striping of the airstrip and will send it to him. The weeds growing on the airstrip have been mentioned to the county and they are soliciting the bids required for this project. Jackie Fioretti advised someone would like to donate two pieces of property to us that is located on Norwood. They are a minimum of one acre each, the taxes have been paid and the water standby fees have been paid. Gwen Adams made a motion to accept the property, seconded by Rick Merrick. The motion was approved. Jack Doll made a motion to pay the $9.00 transfer fee to Otero County. Gwen seconded the motion and it was approved. There was discussion concerning blind spots at intersections, and on curves. Some belong to Otero County and some belong to TWSD. There is approximately $6,000.00 left in the BLM grant for tree thinning. There was discussion that the scrub oak and trees could be cut, limbed and chipped in the right away of these blind spots. Jim Ackermann and Rick Merrick have agreed to work together on this project. The cost is approximately $200 per corner or $800 per intersection. B.F. Adams made a motion to use the $6,490.98 to look into the possibility of clearing these blind spots. Peg Bullard seconded the motion and it was approved. The following committee was formed to identify the blind spots: Jack Doll, B.F. Adams and Frank Bullard. Everett will contact Otero County and TWSD for approval to clear these blind spots. Project Application Form – This form will be used by anyone who is looking for project assistance from the Timberon Development Council. This would not eliminate anyone from introducing a new project at the TDC monthly meetings. After the form was reviewed, B. F. Adams made a motion to use the form. It was seconded by Rick Merrick and the motion was approved. Jackie will e-mail the form to Judy to put on the TDC website. Page 3 Larry Hanson brought a project before the TDC at the May meeting. He stated, “property owners could contribute to the purchase of a fire hydrant to be placed over fire drops in their area. There are 22 fire drops in Timberon. Some fire hydrants have been located and are available at a reasonable cost of approximately $700 instead of the $1,500 previously reported. The hydrant would then be donated to TWSD for the purpose of maintenance.” We don’t know yet what TWSD will charge for the installation. There will be more discussion on this at the next TDC meeting. Ten cases of water have been donated to the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department. The water they had on hand was depleted during our recent fire. After discussion, Frank Bullard made a motion for TDC to donate $200 ($100 each) to the Timberon Baptist Chapel for the two families who lost their property in the recent fire. Jack Doll seconded the motion and it was approved. Gwen Adams, gave her formal resignation from her TDC position of Treasurer. She has become involved with other things in the community and feels she is overloaded. After discussion and everyone thanked her for the wonderful job she has done her resignation was accepted by the Timberon Development Council. Peggy Bullard made a motion to appoint Fran Trendler to fill the remaining term as Treasurer. B.F. Adams seconded the motion and it was approved. Fran Trendler was appointed Treasurer for the remainder of this year. A motion was made to adjourn at 11:45 am by Gwen Adams and seconded by B.F. Adams. Motion approved. These are open meetings and everyone is invited to attend. Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month excluding December and start at 10:00 am. Respectfully submitted Jackie Fioretti, Secretary
