TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held May 07, 2010 IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Rick Merrick Fran Trendler B.F. Adams Gwen Adams Cal Tyler Mary Tyler Frank Hodnett Rick Rozum Pam Rozum Burr Holstrom Shirley Holstrom Judy Underwood Jackie Fioretti The meeting was called to order by President Everett Putney at 6:05 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was given by all and a prayer was given by Frank Hodnett. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read from the last meeting. A motion was made by B.F. Adams to accept the minutes. It was seconded by Cal Tyler. The minutes were approved. A Treasurer’s report was given by Fran Trendler. A motion was made by Gwen Adams and seconded by Judy Underwood to accept the report as given. Motion approved. Fran Trendler reported our bills for May totaled $251.23. Shirley Holstrom made a motion to pay our bills and it was seconded by Mary Tyler. Motion approved. Rick Merrick gave a report on the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Grant administered by the New Mexico Association of Counties. The DVD Committee is working hard to get ready for the actual filming. We still need photos of before and after the fire. The corner thinning has slowed down a bit. James Ross worked on the corners and submitted a bill. If you know of a corner that needs to be thinned please call Rick Merrick. Our good friend, Ryan Whitaker is leaving BLM and going to work for Fish & Wildlife Service. He has been a big supporter of Timberon. We will miss him and we wish him the very best in his new job. Ricky Cox will replace Ryan and we look forward to working with him. The Fire Department should hear something in June about their grant. An update on the WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) Grant was given by Rick Merrick. Rick talked to Andrew Fredericks and movement to thin properties is starting to look good. There are a few landowners in Timberon who are taking advantage of the program and thinning their own lots. Remember! Don’t dump your slash in the dry lake, take it to the two small pits off Eldorado. If you are interested in the thinning program you can pick up a form at the Timberon Development Council Office on the front porch anytime during the day, seven days a week. Shirley Holstrom gave a report on Western Day to be held on July 3rd. Help is needed with some of the activities such as a Tortilla Throwing Contest and a Milking Contest. The Tombstone Band from El Paso will be playing and a stage is still needed for the band and other functions. After discussion Frank Hodnett made a motion to donate $150.00 to pay for half of the expense of renting a stage for the band. The motion was seconded by Gwen Adams and it was approved. over Page 2 Jeremy McMahon, Timberon ATV Rentals, is paying for a dance on Western Day evening for his ATV participants and the “Western Day” people. The next Western Day meeting will be on May 21, 2010 at Jane Huisingh home. Jackie Fioretti gave a report on the property that may be donated to the Timberon Development Council by the Estate of Mary Garcia. Jackie talked to the Executor of her estate and was advised by Pioneer Title in Alamogordo, N.M. that the Estate Attorney would have to issue a “Personal Representative Deed”. A letter was sent to Bruce Clark advising him of such. Everett Putney advised the Timberon Mountains in Bloom Celebration will be held tomorrow in the Mary Glover Park. Everett mowed the park and B.F. and Gwen Adams moved the tables in the park a little closer together. Bring your own chairs! Mrs. Wyatt has been taking care of the restroom facilities each month in the park and has been doing a fantastic job. Everett will send a letter of thanks to her. Ron McCormick will deliver the water truck to the park. Someone is needed to direct traffic at the corner of Valley and Ruby. After discussion it was agreed to meet at 9:00 am tomorrow at the TDC Office to move the benches and trash cans to the park. Burr Holstrom volunteered to bring his trailer to help with the move. Rick Merrick volunteered to bring his weed whacker and cut around the trees. Everett Putney gave a report on the meeting he and Jackie Fioretti had with Mike Byrnes, Business Specialist, Small Business Development Center in Ruidoso, N.M. This was his first trip to Timberon. Shantel Keune and Judy Underwood are working on a grant for the community swimming pool. They need a 501c3 organization to sponsor them and administer the grant money. As soon as the pool is filled with water the chemicals need to be added. The Timberon Water & Sanitation District doesn’t have the money to buy the pool chemicals. The grant will request a solar system to heat the pool and wages for a life guard. Presently Shantel will request a donation from WalMart for the pool chemicals which will require a letter from us. After discussion B.F. Adams made a motion for the Timberon Development Council to write a letter to WalMart requesting a donation for the pool chemicals. Fran Trendler seconded the motion and it was approved. The pool chemicals will cost approximately $4,500.00. The solar system to heat the pool will cost approximately $5,000.00. Frank Hodnett presented a proposal to TDC for Business Publicity. All businesses in Timberon would be listed on the back side and on the front side would be a map with those businesses who wish to advertize pictured around the map and identified on the map. Rick Merrick will present this at the next Timberon Business Meeting on May 20th. B. F. Adams will work on the map. Shirley Holstrom advised she pays $75.00 per year to advertize in the Masonic Newsletter. There was discussion as to what to charge for the advertising. There will be more on this later. Fran Trendler made a motion to adjourn and Shirley Holstrom seconded the motion. The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned at 7:20 pm.
