Adams John Howell Jackie Fioretti The TDC meeting was called to order by President Everett Putney at 10:00 AM. Allegiance to the flag was given by all and a prayer was given by Frank Hodnett. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read from the last meeting. A motion was made by Linda Lea to accept the minutes as submitted and it was seconded by Burt Rubinowitz. The minutes were approved. A Treasurer’s report was given by Fran Trendler. A motion was made by B.F. Adams and seconded by Linda Lea to accept the Treasurer’s report as given. Motion approved. Bills for October totaled $299.00, which included Pioneer Title and South Central Mountain RC&D. B.F. Adams made a motion to pay our bills and Linda Lea seconded the motion. The motion was approved. Old Business: Jackie Fioretti gave a report on the donated property that was sold to W. J. Allen. All required paperwork is at Pioneer Title. The property on Chresta Loma was discussed and Bobbie Brown will put it on Craigs List. Jackie advised the interest bearing account is pending due to lack of time to establish it. Rick Merrick gave a report on the Business Meeting held on September 17th. Only one person came to the meeting. There is one meeting left, which is the 6th meeting, unless the Timberon business people start showing up. The meetings have been positive and he has received good feed back. Rick advised someone else needs to chair these meetings if they continue after November 18th. There was discussion to put up posters to advertise the next business meeting. Holders for the Business Brochures were discussed. Jackie Fioretti advised she read in last months minutes we were out of the brochures and it was suggested we have 2000 printed. She had Office Depot print 2000 two sided brochures for $212.17. Shirley Holstrom made a motion and seconded by Burt Rubinowitz to reimburse Jackie Fioretti $212.17 for the brochures. The motion was approved. There was discussion concerning the Fourth of July activities in the community. At the last meeting, it was voted on and passed that TDC will not sponsor July Fourth Activities next year as in the past, no city panel set up, no venders etc. There was discussion on TDC sponsoring Page 2 something such as a community dinner and dance. TDC could provide the meat and everyone bring a covered dish. Jan Swinney spoke of how it is a good idea to have a potluck dinner and meet your neighbor. Whatever is decided it doesn’t have to be called Western Days it can be called something else. Bill Brown gave a report on the Fly In he and Bobbie attended this past weekend. He is a member of the Southwestern New Mexico Pilots Association. Twenty Four airplanes and 35-40 people attended. There is interest in having a Fly In into Timberon in 2011. The Association will have a meeting in November to set the schedule for 2011. There was discussion to have a community breakfast and dinner, horseback riding, golf, swimming pool etc. A dollar amount could be charged per person to cover the expenses. Bill Brown volunteered to be the Event Manager for the 2011 Fly In. New Business: Nominations for 2011 Officers: Linda Lea made a motion and seconded by Burt Rubinowitz for the existing President, Vice President and Secretary be nominated to serve next year. The motion passed. Gwen Adams was nominated to serve as Treasurer next year. An election will be held at next months meeting. Jackie Fioretti advised Dwight Haisley passed away. Dwight was a long time resident of this community and devoted many hours into serving this community and was an avid supporter of TDC. Jackie ordered and sent flowers from TDC for Dwight’s funeral service in Colorado Springs, Co. The cost was under $80.00. Burt Rubinowitz made a motion and seconded by B.F. Adams to reimburse Jackie Fioretti up to $80.00 for the flowers for Dwight’s funeral. Motion passed. It was also learned that Grace Myers, Jack Doll and Ray Wilson also passed away. Our condolences go to their families as we keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Everett Putney gave a report on the annual Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) meeting held in Cloudcroft on September 30th that he and Jackie Fioretti attended. Elizabeth Driggers on Senator Udall’s Staff sat at our table. She advised Everett there is a 1994 Letter that recognized Timberon as a Colonia and there is money available for water and roads for Colonia’s. Cloudcroft has spent approximately one million dollars on converting their sewage water to drinking water. Robert Bookey, a teacher at the Cloudcroft High School has been involved with the high school youths in making wood products and only sawdust is left when they are through making the products. They are unable to market their product and Everett suggested maybe TDC could help by buying some of the products and selling them. Peg Grim with State Forestry has a book called “Growing Up Wild” for youngsters. Everett is anxious to get one and see what it is all about. Ruidoso has grant money for a walking and bicycling trail along the river and this project will be underway soon. There are a lot of things happening that we need to be aware of. Everett suggested TDC sponsor a Scholarship Program. Linda Lea advised we need to focus on our Community Action Plan. After discussion B.F. Adams made a motion to establish a Scholarship Fund for a Timberon High School Student or existing Timberon College Student. John Howell seconded the motion and it passed. A Scholarship Committee was formed as Page 3 follows: Linda Lea, Joan Schug, John Howell and Mary Lou Rodriguez. Samples of existing Scholarships will be brought to the next meeting. B. F. Adams advised he is selling a “Putting on the Lips” DVD for $10.00. The proceeds will go to maintaining the community swimming pool for next year. You may call B.F. Adams at (575) 987-2552 if you wish to purchase a DVD. He also has “Putting on the Lips” DVD’s for the past five years if you would like to purchase one of them. Also, the Timberon Fire Department is raffling tickets for a quilt with the proceeds going to the swimming pool. Jackie Fioretti thanked Shirley Holstrom for taking the October minutes in her absence. It isn’t an easy task. She also thanked Gwen Adams for giving the Treasurer’s report on a short notice. We really appreciate those who volunteer when needed. B.F. Adams advised Judy Underwood is our new Webmaster and Weather Station Maintenance person since Scott Millar isn’t in Timberon. Judy is on vacation and as soon as she returns will be working on fixing the problems with the weather station. In the meantime, security on the website Windows has a free security program that is loaded. Thanks to everyone for their patience! Rick Merrick and Burt Rubinowitz showed the preliminary Fire DVD about the Buckwood Fire. Burt Rubinowitz made a motion and seconded by Fran Trendler to adjourn the meeting after the showing of the DVD. Motion passed.
