Allegiance to the flag was given by all and a prayer was given by Everett Putney. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read from the last meeting. A motion was made by B. F. Adams and seconded by John Noel to accept the minutes as submitted. The minutes were approved. Fran Trendler gave the Treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Charles Reeves and seconded by John Noel to accept the Treasurer’s report. The motion was approved. Bills totaled $647.18 which included payment to Sharon Wyatt for cleaning the restrooms at Mary Glover Park, annual dues to the New Mexico Airport Managers Association and reimbursement to Fran Trendler for a Canon Copy Machine. Charlie Ross made a motion to pay our bills and B.F. Adams seconded the motion which was approved. Old Business: The Timberon Development Council gave two $500.00 Scholarships last month and Everett read a very nice thank you note and letter from Jacob Worrell and Mitchell Goss. Rick Merrick advised the State Forestry Tree Thinning Grant money is waiting to be passed down by the Governor. In the meantime a list is being compiled of those who are interested in thinning their property. If you are interested in this project call Mike Caggiano, State Forestry at 575-937-1789 cell or email him at mcaggiano@scmrcd.org. There are twenty acres of block thinning left to do out of the original fifty five acres and thirty days left to finish the project. This project was shut down because of the fire danger. There is road thinning money left from BLM (Bureau of Land Management). B.F. Adams advised there is a chain saw restriction in affect right now because of the no burn situation. No chain saws can be used after 10:00 am in the morning and before 1:00 am the following morning. The Timberon Development Council is sponsoring a Labor Day Community Pot Luck Dinner in Mary Glover Park on Monday, September 05, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and will provide the brisket and drinks. Gwen Adams and Joan Schug are working on this project and can use some help. If you are interested please call Gwen. TDC is also sponsoring the Labor of Love Project on Sunday, September 04, 2011. Each vendor will be charged $10.00 which will go to TWSD (Timberon Water and Sanitation District). TDC will provide publicity and drinks. 2 Shirley Holstrom advised the Timberon Home Extension Club is closing and they would like to donate money towards our Labor Day Community Pot Luck Dinner. Gwen Adams presented TDC with a $50.00 check. Everett thanked the Timberon Home Extension Club and said he was sorry they were closing. There was discussion at our last meeting about a Timberon Welcome and Art Center. Shirley Holstrom advised the Art Group decided they wouldn’t be able to pay the rent and therefore formed a group called the Timberon Art Society. They plan to have events several times a year. Everett advised there was also discussion about a bus stop type of welcome stop and Ward Cosgrove checked with the El Paso Bus Company to see about getting an old bus waiting station and was told that any material damaged is used for other bus stations. The Cloudcroft webcam linking to the TDC website was discussed and it was mentioned that it costs $200.00 per year to advertise on that webcam. Judy Underwood will look into the possibility of linking the webcam to the TDC website and how much it would cost. Timberon Brochures were discussed and it will be time to update them in August. The new brochures need to be on legal size paper so they are easier to read. Rick Merrick made a motion to charge $60.00 for an ad in the brochure and $20.00 for any changes or set up fee. John Noel seconded the motion and it was approved. Rick Merrick advised he received disappointing feed back on TDC not doing anything for the July 4th weekend. We needed young volunteers to put up the town walls and didn’t have them. Mary Tyler advised there are Eagle Scout troops at the Methodist Church in Cloudcroft. There is also a Federal Service Learning Group at some schools who will volunteer on their own time. Rick Merrick made a motion to hire an Events Coordinator on a contract basis. Shirley Holstrom seconded the motion. After discussion it was agreed to establish a committee to write the job description, salary, etc. and advertise the Events Coordinator. Charles Reeves amended Rick’s motion to create a committee to explore the hiring of an Events Coordinator. B. F. Adams seconded the amended motion and it was approved. The Committee is Rick Merrick, Shirley Holstrom, Mary Tyler and Everett Putney. New Business: Fran Trendler advised she purchased a Canon Copy Machine for TDC at Staples in Alamogordo. She didn’t purchase the Maintenance Contract because she didn’t have prior approval. The Maintenance Contract for three years is $94.99 plus tax. B.F. Adams made a motion to purchase the Maintenance Contract for the Canon Copy Machine. Gwen Adams seconded the motion and it was approved. Everett Putney advised he will attend the Otero County Commissioners work session on July 13th to solicit their support for the Timberon Airstrip. Some items to be discussed at the work session are liability insurance, reclassification, paving the tie down area and stripping the runway. During discussion Gwen advised the helicopter that is seen flying around is part of the Omni Flight Medical Rescue Group training at 7,000 feet elevation. We will continue to have our Timberon Development Council meeting in the Community Lodge through September. The Timberon Business meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21st at 6:30 pm. at the red barn. The Event Coordinator Committee will meet this same night after the Business meeting. Fran Trendler will send flyers to the Business’s in Timberon. Joan Schug said the pool is doing very well. She is still selling tickets for $5.00 to raffle a Magnovox Television. The money will go to the operation of the swimming pool. The swimming pool fee is $3.00 or 10 swims for $20.00. Shirley Holstrom is selling tickets for $1.00 to raffle an afghan. Fran Trendler made a motion and seconded by Charles Reaves to adjourn the meeting at approximately 11:20 am. Motion passed.
