TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held October 13, 2012 www.timberon.org IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Rick Merrick Shirley Holstrom Mary Tyler Cal Tyler Janet Swinney Darrell May Gwen Adams Melinda Reaves Charles Reaves Nanette Thorell Jackie Fioretti The meeting was called to order by Everett Putney at 10.00 AM. Pledge Allegiance to the Flag was given, and a prayer was offered by Everett. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read. A motion was made by Gwen Adams and seconded by Darrell May to accept the September minutes. Motion passed. The Treasurer’s report for September was given by Shirley Holstrom. A motion was made by Charles Reaves and seconded by Rick Merrick to accept the report and the motion passed. Bills submitted for September totaled $223.50. Melinda Reaves made a motion to pay our bills. Mary Tyler seconded the motion and it was approved. Communications: Shirley Holstrom read correspondence received from the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is sponsoring a mascaraed party to be held on October 13th from 8:00pm to midnight. They also advertised a cruise for November 06, 2012 and “Children In Need of Services” on November 03, 2012. Old Business: Rick Merrick advised the “Business Brochures” are complete and we need help distributing 800 copies to Mercantiles, Realtors and Chamber of Commerce in the Cloudcroft and Alamogordo area. Rick said B.F. Adams worked really hard on this project and we really do thank him. Jan Sweeny asked would it be beneficial to distribute the brochures in other areas such as Lubbock & Carlsbad? After discussion, this was tabled until the next meeting. Rick Merrick advised Everett talked to the Otero County Manager about providing Frisby Golf in the Mary Glover Park and into the Shallow Creek Park. She gave us her approval to go ahead with it. Rick advised Tournaments are the key to success. Everett advised Ruidoso has two Frisby Golf Courses. Rick asked Everett to check with the county to see if there is money available to provide barbeque pits in the park in order to make them more useful and is there money for Frisby Golf? Rick advised planning for the Timberon Blues Festival on July 27-28, 2013 is under way. The committee is being formed: Fran Trendler will be Treasurer, Nan Thorell will be in charge of Arts & Crafts, Nan Ladd will be in charge of sponsorships and Jane Huisingh will fill in wherever she is needed. We are still looking for people to serve on the committee. If you are interested please call Rick. Rick is exploring the site for next year. Nan Thorell advised a web site for the Timberon Blues Festival would cost $59.40 for the domain and the space is free. Rick Merrick made a motion for Nan to implement the web site and TDC pay the $59.40 for the domain. Melinda Reaves seconded the motion and it passed. New Business: Gwen Adams advised the Welcome Wagon handed out eight packages. A lot of them are part time residences in Timberon. The contact number for the Welcome Wagon is on the TDC web site. Everett Putney advised he and Jackie Fioretti attended the SCMRCD (South Central Mountain Resource Conservation and Development) Council annual meeting in Ruidoso on October 11, 2012. The meeting was very informative and was very well attended by Lincoln County. The SCMRCD includes Lincoln and Otero County and they handled $1,800,000.00 last year. A lot of this money was spent in Lincoln County. Lincoln Page 2 County is very active and supportive of SCMRCD. Laura Doth, Coordinator is doing an excellent job and SCMRCD is the most active Council in the State of New Mexico. Rick Merrick advised the Timberon Chapel is turning their new building into a food pantry with shelving units etc. installed in order to help those in the community who are in need of food. After discussion, Rick Merrick made a motion to give a $250.00 donation to the Timberon Chapel for their food pantry. Melinda Reaves seconded the motion and it passed. Everett Putney opened the floor for nominations for the 2013 Officers. Shirley Holstrom made a motion for President - Everett Putney, Vice President – Rick Merrick, and Treasurer – Fran Trendler. The motion was seconded and it passed. Melinda Reaves made a motion to close nominations. It was seconded and passed. According to the by-laws , the election will be at the November meeting. Everett Putney read a request to donate a piece of property located at T13, Block 177, Lot 89 to the Timberon Development Council. He advised there isn’t any water or electricity in this area. After discussion, Charles Reaves made a motion to reject the donation. The motion was seconded by Shirley Holstrom and it passed. Another request for donation was received in T8, Block 23, Lot 54 and T9, Block 142, Lot 10. After discussion it was agreed to hold this request until the next meeting. Everett Putney advised The Fire Department is celebrating Fire Prevention Week at the Fire Department today from 10:00am to 2:00pm. They are serving hot dogs etc. Everett advised Cal & Mary are moving to Arkansas and we will miss them. They have been very supportive of TDC. A motion to adjourn was made by Shirley Holstrom and seconded by Mary Tyler. The motion passed and the meeting was adjourned at 11:20am. The next meeting of the Timberon Development Council will be held at the Timberon Lodge, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM. These are open meetings and anyone may attend.
