TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held November 10, 2012 www.timberon.org IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Rick Merrick Shirley Holstrom Fran Trendler Nanette Thorell Larry Hanson Jackie Fioretti The meeting was called to order by Everett Putney at 10.00 AM. Pledge Allegiance to the Flag was given, and a prayer was offered by Everett. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read. A motion was made by Fran Trendler and seconded by Shirley Holstrom to accept the October minutes. Motion passed. The Treasurer’s report for October was given by Shirley Holstrom. A motion was made by Fran Trendler and seconded by Nan Thorell to accept the report and the motion passed. Bills submitted for October totaled $578.47. Rick Merrick made a motion to pay our bills. Larry Hanson seconded the motion and it was approved. Communications: Shirley Holstrom read correspondence received from the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is holding their annual banquet next month. The Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce sent a request looking for Sponsors for their Mardi Gras on February 8-10, 2013. Old Business: Everett Putney gave an update on the Timberon Airport. He received a request from the FAA to update the runway facilities which he did and mailed it back as requested. There was discussion on lighting for the runway. Larry Hanson said he had two 9v battery led lights with an off/on switch that will run 12 hours for fifteen dollars. Everett advised the airstrip is not classified for night landing. He talked to the Otero County Manager concerning emergency funds for lighting and if the paint was provided for the runway striping we would paint it. He also mentioned the striping of the paved county roads and not striping them when ice or snow is on the pavement. Rick Merrick advised he will work with the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Joe Wheeler on lighting for the airstrip. Fran Trendler advised Chairman, Gwen Adams for the Welcome Wagon is sick today and we don’t have a report. Fran mentioned there has been activity but doesn’t know how much. Rick Merrick reported there will be a Timberon Blues Festival meeting in Timberon on December 12th. He also reminded everyone we are still looking for volunteers. The Blues Festival is scheduled for July 27-28, 2013. Rick advised the Sacramento River Tree Thinning Project has been put on hold. The Otero County Wild Fire Protection Plan is being updated. This plan is required when networking and asking for support letters. Jackie Fioretti mentioned the 2011 Income Tax Report for the council has been electronically filed by the CPA. New Business: Shirley Holstrom made a motion to accept the officers that were nominated at the October meeting. Nan Thorell seconded the motion and it passed. The Officers for 2013 were elected as follows: President – Everett E. Putney, Vice President – Rick Merrick, Treasurer – Fran Trendler, and Secretary – Vacant. If you are interested in the secretary position please call one of the officers. Page 2 There was discussion in moving the TDC office to a location next to Robert’s Realty. The new office will also be the “Welcome Center” and have historical information etc. Shirley Holstrom made a motion to move the TDC Office to 1559B Sacramento for $450.00 per month and pay the cost of moving the telephone service, DSL line and the monthly cost of the telephone service. Nan Thorell seconded the motion and it passed. There is a handicap restroom. A TDC Coordinator Position Proposal was handed out and reviewed. This position will have multiple responsibilities and will be filled on a contract basis. After review and minor changes, Shirley Holstrom made a motion to accept the 2013 proposal and appoint Rick Merrick as the TDC Coordinator. Fran Trendler seconded the motion and it was approved. Rick Merrick did not vote on this issue. Rick advised he will be looking for a donated CPU, furniture, bookcases, filing cabinets etc. He is looking for Artist and Historical Books, old Timberon photographs such as groups, events etc. Office supplies will be needed to get started. Fran Trendler made a motion to authorize Rick Merrick to spend up to $250.00 for office supplies. Shirley Holstrom seconded the motion and it passed. Everett advised signage for the new office is available. Everett Putney read a letter from Andrew and Kathryn Taylor concerning wind farm development in Timberon. Larry Hanson advised a perfect location would be the Hesse property where it drops off. The wind comes up from the valley and it is an ideal spot for wind generation. Rick will do more research into wind generation and solar. A property bid was received from Sally & Joe Watson on Timberon Unit 3, Block 57, Lot 3for $3,500.00. Fran Trendler made a motion to accept the bid. It was seconded by Rick Merrick and it passed. Jackie Fioretti will notify the Watsons. Another bid from Karen Schnebly was read. There is a lien on the property and there will be further investigation before this property is voted to accept or reject. Shirley Holstrom made a motion to cancel the December meeting and authorize the Treasurer to pay the December bills. Rick Merrick seconded the motion and it was approved. Rick Merrick and Fran Trendler will attend the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce meeting on behalf of the Timberon Development Council. A motion to adjourn was made by Fran Trendler and seconded by Shirley Holstrom. The motion passed and the meeting was adjourned at 11:50am. The next meeting of the Timberon Development Council will be held at the Timberon Lodge, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM. These are open meetings and anyone may attend.
